Gloucester Athletic Club competes in two Cross Country Leagues; the Birmingham Cross Country League and the Gloucestershire Cross Country League. For senior men the main aim for 2009 season was maintaining a placing in the top half of Division 2 – or gain promotion to division 1 and for the B team to finish in the top 3 B teams in that division. The main objective was in fact achieved when the A team returned to Division 1with the B team reaching the top 3 in 2nd place.
The Veteran’s team will also aim to challenge for a medal position in the Gloucestershire Cross Country League. The women’s team is aiming to complete teams – possibly A and B – in all of the Gloucestershire Cross Country League races and also gain medals in the Senior Women’s and Veteran Women’s categories.

A further challenge for us will be to enter teams in the younger athlete’s age groups; this will be a gradual process of recruitment and development but we would like to see full teams for these age groups in the 2010/11 season with sustained progression into the senior teams in subsequent years.
We aim to provide appropriate training for a wide range of abilities and ages and to complement the competitions outlined above have regular training sessions. One group is aimed at people running 9 or 10 minute miles over 3 to 5 miles and the other for faster runners. Winter training for the faster group is mainly hill repetitions or tempo running whilst during the summer Tuesdays sees speed endurance work and Thursdays hill running of either repetitions or parlauf with occasional tempo runs.
