About Us

Gloucester AC is a friendly, family orientated club that caters for all aspects of athletics for ages 8 (must be in School Year 4) and over. We provide competitive opportunities and training in all events and at all levels from beginner to international standard. All of our coaches are UKA licensed and DBS checked. We are based at our Blackbridge clubhouse at the end of Poplar Close, Podsmead, Gloucester.

For track and field we have access to the recently refurbished Blackbridge Jubilee Athletics Track (next to our clubhouse). This is a fully equipped facility with a 6-lane 400m track with 8-lane home straight; adjustable height steeplechase barriers; long and triple jump runway and pit with boards at 7, 9, 11 and 13m; high jump; pole vault; shot put circle; hammer and discus cage; two javelin runways. Our clubhouse has weight training equipment for strength and conditioning work.

We compete in various track and field leagues, cross-country leagues and the regional and national road relays. There is a wide range of local, regional and national championships, open track and field meetings and road / multi-terrain races that members can also compete in. Competition is available for all age groups.

Over the years we have produced several international athletes, all the way to Olympic and IAAF World Championship level, including 2002 Commonwealth Games hammer throw Champion, Lorraine Shaw.

The club also presents opportunities for those who wish to take up or further their athletics coaching and/or officiating, or who wish to volunteer for other roles.

We are affiliated to the Gloucestershire AAA, Midland Counties AA, England Athletics and UK Athletics.
